Detailed job description and main responsibilities Your Responsibilities What you’ll do
We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated scientist with extensive experience and knowledge in molecular cancer diagnostics. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day planning and coordination of laboratory activities as well as the reporting of complex molecular investigations. The successful applicant will have demonstrated their ability to lead staff through change and an ability to deliver innovation through new technologies and processes. Good communication, interpersonal skills and a committed team member are essential.
The clinical service provides a comprehensive range of investigations and complex interpretation for haematological disease, MRD, disease associations, pharmacogenomics and solid tumours in line with the National Genomics Test Directory. Within UHS, the laboratory works closely with other departments including Cellular Pathology and Haematology services to enable the future provision of molecular diagnostics.
What we’re looking for
The post holder will play a role in delivering the strategic plan for UHS molecular diagnostics as part of the national reconfiguration of the NHS Genomic Medicine Service. The successful candidate will take part in all aspects of the molecular diagnostics service including the interpretation, verification and validation of NGS data in cancer. They will also support developments in personalised medicine including the transfer of assays to NGS, complex interpretation, active engagement in MDTs and GTABs and opportunities for research developments.
The laboratory supports the training of a variety of STP programmes in cancer genomics, haematology, immunology, biochemistry and histopathology.
We invite applications from HCPC registered Clinical Scientists with a BSc (Hons) and either DipRCPath Part 1 (working towards completion of FRCPath) or a PhD, confirming advanced, in-depth scientific and theoretical knowledge and expertise.
